Thought for the Day

"I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come around, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys."

Charles Dickens

  1. This quote came at just the right time! I've just signed up for the Victorian Literature Challenge!

  2. Oh, this challenge looks good! Maybe I'll join up. I'm not great about reading under pressure,
but maybe I'll manage since it runs all year. I love your new design, by the way.

  3. Isn't this just the best, best quote! I like that 'fellow passengers to the grave.' Whew.

  4. Nan, I too love this quote. Very Dickens in tone I think, though I admit I've only read one of his books.
