Wednesday: Quote/UnQuote

Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Learn from it; tomorrow is a new day.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. The dog! Is that really how it is posing? How can it sit like that?
Is this dog a practitioner of Buddhism?

    I like the quote.

My father used to say: Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday and all is well. (That's gotten me through many a dental appointment!)

This one is good, too, along with "We do our best."

  2. Isn't this too adorably funny? I can't figure out if it's real - probably not - or the magic of photo shop.

Still, it did make me laugh and go, 'awww...!'

Emerson is great for quotes. He was a veritable fountain of them. My favorite:

"No two people read the same book." I use it all the time.

  3. "No two people read the same book," is very true.

I can see that in book reviews all of the time.

But then again we all look for different things.

I just read a book which had lots of action, no character development. A few people really liked it. I felt like it was like drinking 5 cups of coffee.

And others got so much more from it I wondered if we had read the same book.

There's no accounting for personal taste in books, art, music and definitely movies.

  4. Kathy: You said it, there's just no accounting for personal taste.

    And I say, thank goodness.

Imagine if we all liked the same things, read the same things, thought the same things, spoke the same words.

  5. Yes. It is good everyone has different taste and opinions. It would be awful and boring if everyone liked the same things. And it makes for good discussions.

Now I'm trying to figure out why some people don't like to read Fred Vargas' books.

I'm reading her new one now and am enjoying it. She's quirky and unpredictable and very creative. So not boring. And witty.

But, wow, her books generate some heavy discsussion. Readers seem divided into pro- and anti-Vargas camps.h

  6. Kathy: I have to try another of her books before I make up my mind. The last one I attempted just didn't hold my interest. I admit it. :)

    But I'm not giving up.

  7. This current Vargas starts off in a very quirky manner, with a horrendous crime or two.

    But then it picks up.

I always give a book 50 pages, unless I really don't like it.

  8. Kathy: The 50 page rule is a very good one. Sometimes I don't even go that far. :)

  9. I told my daughter "Renee tells all" about your post. I think that dog is the greatest photo I have ever seen. Yvonne

  10. Yvonne: Isn't he something? I think the this is photo-shopped though. Don't see how it can be real. But it's still charming as heck.
