New Yorker cover, 1967 - Arthur Getz
"Work is about a search for daily meaning as well as daily bread, recognition as well as cash, for astonishment rather than torpor; in short, for a sort of life rather than a Monday through Friday sort of dying."
Studs Terkel, Pulitzer Prize winning oral historian, author and essayist.
Even though I am very very grateful to have the job that I have and I love my work most of the time, I still look forward to the weekends. A lot. That bothers me, but I haven't been able to change that mind set.
ReplyDeleteWell, no matter how great the job, one does get tired or frustrated or needing a weekly break. Right? I don't think there's anything wrong with that mind set. Hope you're having a great day, Tracy.
DeleteDear Yvette,
ReplyDeleteI like that Studs Terkel quote, perfect for the day. And I think it all boils down to whether or not one is living in the moment. I hope you're enjoying the holiday.
Thanks, Mark. '...living in the moment.' Yes. SO important. Trying my best. Hope you are too. :)
DeleteStuds Terkel usually had something interesting to say.
Excellent quote, and a needed reminder for the wage slaves of our nations. We can have our self-respect if it is not forthcoming from other sources.
ReplyDeleteAgree, Pat. Self-respect is no little thing.
