Painters of all sorts from different countries, art of all types, women and dabs of red in common. International Women's Day was Wednesday, March 8th, but any day is a good day to celebrate women who now, more than ever, need to band together. NEVER forgetting that we have NO ALLIES in the current American administration.

  2. Lovely selection of 'ladies in red' Yvette - I never wear red myself, just a touch for example from a scarf or necklace - I notice that each of these beautiful women are very dark in both hair and eye apart from one.
Your last sentence has shocked me!

    1. I hardly ever wear red anymore, Rosemary. Though I'm thinking that maybe I'll start to wear it again. Beginning with something red for Spring and Summer. I'm shocked by the last line too, Rosemary. It's too bad what's happening in this country.

  3. Love the post. OH Yvette they ran the health care in the middle of the night. It is bad. That Ryan I liked a year ago. He has no clue what is going on . we are the laughing stock of the world. Trump is a con man I knew it before he ran. My Mamma said," Birds of a feather flock together" He has surrounded himself with crooks
people looking to ride the wave to riches. Ryan said today NO MONEY> yet Trump is spending Millions on security. For his whole family, next it will be cousins. Money for Trump, but cut corners on lives.

    1. I agree completely, Yvonne. These are very bad times. Every day it's a new scandal or new disgrace. I don't know how much more we can take.

  4. Well, first things first: I love these paintings of women in red. I have to bookmark this post to look at in the future. And I do wear red and am told by friends to wear it more often.

Second, there are no friends of women in this administration, some in Congress, but none in the White House, Cabinet or elsewhere. Nope.

Third: There is no money for health care? In fact, the wealthy are going to get hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts. The Congressional Budget Office says 24 million people will lose health insurance by 2026 if the Ryan-Trump bill passes.

But there is $54 billion more for the military! And the EPA is being gutted, environmental regulations thrown out and global warming science; public education is endangered; the Clean Water Act is being overturned by Executive Order, etc. Every Cabinet director has been appointed to gut the agencies and regulations.

People have to take action, keep protesting, calling, marching, etc.

There is an article in Monday's New York Times that says liberals are turning to political comedy and liberal TV commentators more than ever. Yep. I need my dose of political comedy every day.

    1. Every day I get up and check the NY Times opening page to see what the latest outrage is. I've lived a long time but I've never lived through anything like this. Even Watergate was not this bad. This president is obviously insane and no one is willing to do anything about it. Maybe when we're at war with North Korea and half the world has been nuked, the republicans might have second thoughts.

  5. Well, McCarthyism was bad. People I know were victims of it. Some people went to jail, like Dashill Hammett; others could not work. Some had to leave the country.

The movie about Dalton Trumbo, called appropriately "Trumbo," shows some of this period when Hollywood filmmakers were intimidated into not making certain types of movies or using certain screen writers or directors. Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger helped to break it in Hollywood.

But the problem is it's not just Trump. Bannon is terrible; so is Miller. The GOP is mostly not standing up to them. The Ryan/Trump/Price bill on cutting health coverage is from all of them. Ryan's bill is terrible. He was on Fox bragging about how many people would be denied coverage and how much money the wealthy would get back in taxes. He was actually enthusiastic about it. (Stephen Colbert did a good skit on this.)

As Paul Krugman said in the NY Times, the GOP wants to cut taxes for the rich and cut benefits for the poor. Exactly. They've wanted to do this all along and opposed the Affordable Care Act. They have also opposed Medicare since it was enacted in 1965.

Tom Price, appointed head of HHS, is for getting rid of Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, etc. Scott Pruitt, head of EPA, opposes global warming science. As AG of Oklahoma, he sued the EPA 14 times, often with fossil fuel companies.

All of these cronies want to gut the agencies and regulations. Oh, and there's labor. They want to gut workers' rights, etc.

It's all a House of Horrors. I hope the Democrats stand up to them on all of it. Meanwhile, people are opposing the Ryan/Trump/Price health bill.

    1. Agree with everything you've said, Kathy. I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe. Hopefully there are a few republicans who will rally for the good of the country. But I doubt it.

  7. Well, people stood up and protested the Ruan/Trump/Price anti-health care bill all over the country. I just read all about it. Protests in 40 cities on March 23, including in D.C., and at Congress members' offices.
A die-in at Rep. Darrell Issa's office in California. Arrests in D.C. of 24 people (planned) representing the 24 million who'd lose health coverage under that inhumane bill.
But I read about so many creative protests, too, that I was buoyed. Driving a truck with a billboard about health care around Sen. Mitch McConnell's home and office in his state.
Since I had to research this, I was enjoying reading about the protests and the ingenuity.
But it'll have to keep up. I see that Ryan et al., are trying to repeal the ACA again. And the Trump budget is sure to be a horror, as well as the tax cuts.
I hope people can keep protesting. It's what gives hope and can have desired results.

  8. I came to this site not only to read the discussion and posts, but also to look at this beautiful set of paintings.

Is there any way to make this obtainable on your blog or something one can link to? I want to look at it in the future. Love these paintings.

  9. There are no good Republicans, but there are Republicans who were deluged with complaints and protests by constituents and fear not being reeledted.

I thought that Nancy Pelosi had a few choice lines. When Ryan and his pals threw in maternity care, mammograms, etc., as "essential benefits" which could be removed from insurance coverage to sweeten the pot for the "Freedom Caucus," she said, "If that passes, being a woman will be a pre-existing condition."
She also said that those who voted for the Ryan bill would have a tattoo on their foreheads saying that for a long time.
    Still a quick mind.
However, do not trust Tom Price, head of HHS. He wants to cut Medicare and Medicaid. I suspect any future executive orders on reducing health care benefits.

  10. I don't trust any of them, Kathy. They're all dangerous. I liked that line of Pelosi's as well. Good one. As for the blog post itself - if you 'bookmark' it on you can go back to it at any time. But I can't tell you how to do that if you haven't the little bookmark icon already set up.

  11. Thanks. I bookmarked this post and hope it stays bookmarked.

Each day a new disaster: Now "the new guy" is defending Bill O'Reilly. The good news is that 40 companies have pulled ads from Fox. Hope the trend continues. I guess thinking of women as equals and as people to be respected is not within their skill set.
