Saturday Salon: The plants and flowers of SOPHIA PERINA-MILLER

Award winning painter Sophia Perina-Miller was born in Russia in 1974 and now lives and works in Scotland. She exhibits her paintings at galleries and art fairs throughout the United Kingdom.

Perina-Miller currently works in watercolor and gel pen. I love her uninhibited use of bright color and love her eye for fine detail and design. She creates wonderful, vibrant work which is happily available in a variety of ways; as original art and in print and textile form.

  1. What a joyous colourful selection of paintings Yvette - I love botanical paintings anyway, but Sophia has given them her own distinctive je ne sais quoi - thanks for the introduction, I shall now be watching out for her work.

    1. Isn't she wonderful? You're welcome, Rosemary, I'm glad I introduced her work to you. She lives in Scotland so she's more or less in your neck of the woods - well, northern most anyway. :)

  3. Dear Yvette,

I like Perina-Miller's work very much — I could see displaying a grouping of her watercolors against a bright pastel wall. I would guess that she incorporates Dr. Martin's Dyes for some of that vibrancy.

    1. That's what I thought too, Mark. But I saw some pix of her working (at a workshop) and she was using regular watercolors. But perhaps they are some new and intense kind of colors. She also uses gel pen which I don't know anything about. (I think I'll check into that.) I like your idea of a grouping on a pastel wall - yes.

  5. They're lovely. My favorite is the third from the top. I like the bold structure and the cobalt blue accents.

  6. Beautiful, Yvette! Would make wonderful fabric designs as well. Would love to have a big comfy chair with one of those on the fabric!

    1. She does do fabric design, Peggy Ann. Wouldn't a chair covered in that overall red print (second from the top) be wonderful?
