I've loved these illustrations of motherhood (as it was once upon a time) since I stumbled over them online a few years ago. They are the work of Montana illustrator Fanny Y. Cony (1877 - 1972). They are a delight.
So, since today is Mother's Day, here they are to wish all you mamas out there the VERY HAPPIEST DAY.
The illustrations are from THE PLEASANT TRAGEDIES OF CHILDHOOD by Burges Johnson, illustrated by Fanny Y. Cory. The book and all the rest of the illustrations can be seen and read online at the above link.

Love these pictures, Yvette! We of Team Bartilucci ! We hope you and yours had a wonderful Mother's Day, too! :<3
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dorian. Same to you, m'dear.
DeleteDear Yvette — a belated Happy Mother's Day to you! The Cory illustrations have a lot of charm, and I feel looking at them that Cory poured a lot of love into the process, was submerged in them. They're delightful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark. Yes, I agree, CHARM with a Capital C! I most especially love the servants expressions and jolly profiles. :)
DeleteHer work reminds me of Bert Salg, the guy who did the illustrations for the juvenile series books with Jerry Todd and Poppy Ott. Hope you had a lovely Mom's Day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John. I did take a look at the illustrator you mentioned. I see the resemblance. Though Cory's work is, to my mind, gentler in tone. She did a whole slew of other wonderful things too. Very prolific in her time.
DeleteI hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day and that your daughter did, too. Have missed her blog and hope her children are doing well.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of the work that women do around the world every single day, it boggles my mind. Every day should be an homage to mothers.
I also loved Wyeth, the older Illustrator. Sometimes they have more work in them than paintings.
ReplyDeletePainted all winter and OH! my back, Yard work up the Kazoo. Hope I get caught up in 2 weeks company is a coming... yvonne
