Here we come a'caroling,
Among the leaves so green!
Here we come a'wandering,
So fair to be seen.
Love and joy come to you,
And a Merry Christmas too,
And we wish you, we wish you
A Happy New Year,
And we wish you a Happy New Year!
We are not daily beggars,
That go from door to door!
But we are friendly neighbors,
Whom you have seen before!
Love and joy come to you,
And a Merry Christmas too,
And we wish you, we wish
A Happy New Year,
And we wish you a Happy New Year!
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
Good tidings to you,
Wherever you are,
Good tidings for Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
A traditional British Christmas/New Years carol (Here We Go A'Wassailing) composed in 1850 or so, which is a favorite of mine.
Dear Yvette,
ReplyDeleteThanks for a delightful selection of nostalgic cards. I think my favorite of this grouping is the mouse feast by Fritz Baumgarten — I like the little guy who's focused on his new toy. Doesn't the car full of dogs look like a Cooldige painting?
I checked Cassius Coolidge on google, but couldn't find the source. It might be. :) I love Fritz Baumgarten's work too. I'm mad about these vintage illustrations with lots of fussy things going on.
DeleteA lovely selection of timeless Christmas cards Yvette. When Christmas cards were designed. Proper cards! :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Dave. I love these illustrations.
DeleteFun post, Yvette! I like the Plymouth ad. Simpler times.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, much simpler. Or so they would have us believe. :)
DeleteYvette, as a kid I used to draw and colour pictures and send them as greeting cards for occasions like birthdays, Diwali, Christmas, and New Year. Looking at these lovely cards gives me hope.
ReplyDeleteHope is always a good thing, Prashant. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the post.
DeleteDelightful. You made my day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, C.W.!
DeleteI love to come here and feast my eyes. Love this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patti. Feast away. That's what the season is for. :)
