These early types of vintage cartoons were once all that was available - cartoon wise - as television kiddy fare. I used to wonder about the black spit. But perhaps that's a topic for another time.

Great minds think alike and all that, Yvette. I have featured a vintage short animated film too and I am certainly going to watch this early cartoon. It's one of my new hobbies now.

DeleteThe two cats spit some rather dubious looking liquid. Also, I don't know if you remember but many MANY eons ago, they used to show these Farmer Gray cartoons (I think it was 'Gray) when I was a kid. The old guy used to spit black stuff which took me years to realize must have been chewing tobacco. Black spit. Ha.

DeleteI got a kick out of watching this, and it makes one realize what a quantum leap Disney made in animating, in such a short time. As I watch this from a 1920's perspective, I imagine that it might have actually been scary to some kids,

DeleteI love the credit slide, Yvette - 1929? Back when Ub Iwerks was still animating for Disney and Carl Stalling was doing the music before he jumped to Warner Bros. Ah, those were the days!
ReplyDeleteThe good old days. I love these old cartoons. So much nicer than what they have today. In their own way they were naive and innocent and full of ridiculousness. I think most of the great animators and creators began with Disney.

DeleteYvette, considering this skeleton dance was made in 1929 it is unique. There were no computer programmes. None of the technology, we have today. All done by very repetitive, very hard work. ,
ReplyDeleteAll very painstaking work for sure, Dave. I love the old behind the scenes at Disney studio films as well. They showed how these animators and opaquers worked. Brilliant.
