Christmas Painting Friday

Today's artwork is by the brilliant Swedish contemporary artist, Lennert Helje....Hmmm, do I sense a Swedish theme going on here? It's just that the Swedes seem to do Christmas very, very well and very cheerfully too. We need a little cheer these days.

While Helje's painting is not specifically Christmasy, it still says 'Christmas' in its own way. There is always magic in the sweet (never cloying) gentleness of his images.

Is this the same artist who was inovl ed in that 1970s book GNOMES? I had that book. Loved allthe mythology and the gorgeous paintings. Maybe I should Goggle and find out for myself.

Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family, Yvette! Loving all these holiday paintings.

I don't think this is the same artist, John. I had the gnome calendar (still have it somewhere, I think). Great minds.

Thanks for the Christmas good wishes, John - Merry Christmas to you and yours and all your lovely books. :)

I'm a big fan of the Fleischer cartoons from the same era. Here's one of their Christmas ones.

I love the Fleischer cartoons too, Mike. We used to watch the Farmer Brown ones on television very early on. I think it was Farmer Brown....well, it was an old geezer of a farmer who spit black stuff. The cartoons were, of course, in black and white. And I remember a clown and, I think a little dog and splashing ink...

But I love the later Fleischer stuff too. The SUPERMAN films are superb.
