Shadowboxing

I love shadowboxes though, unfortunately, I don't own any. I've been meaning for years to try and create one of my own - still haven't done it. Although, in a way, my whole house is my own, very personal shadow box. Lots of crafters do shadow boxes on various and sundry topics, but very few (in my humble opinion) qualify as artists.

When it comes to Shadow Boxes As Art, there's no one better than Tracy W. Hambley. I first saw her boxes in Mary Englebreit's magazine years ago and I've never forgotten them. See what you think, here's Tracy's blog.

Wouldn't it be great to have a box designed around some sort of central literary topic? A scene from a favorite book? A favorite reading genre? A favorite author? A favorite book cover? The mind wanders, but you get the gist of what I'm saying - right? It would be a very cool thing.

Here are some topics off the top of my head: Agatha Christie, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Nancy Drew, your favorite vampire novel...see where I'm going with this?

  1. There is this amazing artist here in Canada, named Sue Hara, her medium has always been these crazy organic pieces of pottery and she has recently switched gears to shadow boxes and they are fabulous... Those pics on your blog are amazing! Thank you for sharing it!

    Cheers

  3. Yeah, I deleted the post because my spelling was awful!! Anyway, I'll try again. Hi Tracy, thanks for dropping by. I don't know Sue Hara's work but I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip. Glad you liked the other Tracy's shadowboxes. :) They are really unique.

  4. Yvette, Thanks so much for the very complimentary words about my shadowboxes. It makes all the long hours spent secluded in my studio well worth it. My intent has always been to entertain the viewer with my work so I am thrilled that you were moved enough to share my shadowboxes with your fans! If you are anything like your blog, you are definitely my kind of gal with whom I would love to share a couple cocktails and a bunch of laughs! All the best, Tracy Hambley

  5. Tracy, what an honor to have you drop by my blog. I love your work. (Well, you kind of knew that.);) I'm so pleased you liked what I wrote. I meant every word.
I'm a relatively new blogger, so it's always encouraging to hear feedback, especially such nice feedback. A couple of cocktails sounds about right, too. I'm big on apple martinis right now. Ha!
