Can't beat 99 cents! Mathew, I think you have THE 39 STEPS mixed up with THE THIRD MAN which was an Orson Welles film. THE 39 STEPS was a Hitchcock film starring Robert Donat. At any rate, Hitchcock took many liberties with the plot of the book, though both work quite well independent of each other.
