They are all his ceremonial soldierly stuff. Yes, that stripe in the foreground steals all the attention. Since the first moment I saw this painting, I've loved it. You're right of course, Dave, it's the sort of painting that stays easily in the mind.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-49800956167502298462010-11-08T16:14:14.115-05:002010-11-08T16:14:14.115-05:00I liked the use of the `burnt` orange colour. On first sight, I thought the picture was cluttered. But further purusal all the activity in the background is put into comparison by the white cover foreground of the sofa. It is the sort of painting that stays easily in the mind. And in my mind, that is really saying something. :-)Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-28953362403425586092010-11-07T11:01:33.616-05:002010-11-07T11:01:33.616-05:00Hi Willa, thanks for dropping by. Far as I'm concerned, he is wonderful. He used to be thought of, mostly, as a kind of illustrator and so was looked down upon by 'the establishment'. But he's garnered more respect as time has gone on. I love his work.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-62875127416117390302010-11-07T00:44:32.940-04:002010-11-07T00:44:32.940-04:00Not an artist I was familiar with but I really do ...Not an artist I was familiar with but I really do like this work.
