I don't remember much about The Rasp, only that I figured out almost immediately who the killer was and that sort of ruined it for me. WARRANT FOR X is SO wonderful - don't miss it. Not read Warrant for X as of yet. Hoping to try his novel called Rynox soon though. The Rasp wasn't an absolute fave, though the mystery aspect was fine. But it's depiction of gender dynamics was fairly skewed i.e. men can only feel like adequate men if women abase themselves.Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05616800837907092489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-72808386285048448892017-11-20T11:04:21.171-05:002017-11-20T11:04:21.171-05:00THE NOOSE is the one I'm looking to read next ...THE NOOSE is the one I'm looking to read next if I can find a copy. Now, THE RASP I didn't like at all, Kate. Oh well, as Edmund Wilson said: 'No two persons ever read the same book.' But we do agree that MacDonald is worth looking for. Have you read WARRANT FOR X? That's still my favorite. I have enjoyed other Macdonald novels though such as The Noose and The Rasp. Harper Collins have been reprinting some of his novels over the past couple of years which is good, as like you say his work is not all that easy to come by. If you're going to read Philip MacDonald though, Mathew, I'd begin with WARRANT FOR X. Then MYSTERY OF THE DEAD POLICE. My three faves. Forget about THE RASP which was the first Anthony Gethryn book and not very good though some would disagree.
