Ray was Jackson's childhood friend, his 'only friend' as he tells Dora. The collar was removed from the dress by the women because it was fine lace and they probably had plans to recycle it in some way but, of course, it also serves as the final piece of the puzzle for Jackson when he finds it in the box. Finally, the dad didn't stand up for himself because he was ashamed and emasculated by his war wound and had already given up on his life. To speak out would be to bring shame on himself and his pregnant wife. By the way, if you read the book David Strathairn was an absolutely perfect choice for Kinley - he has all the right attributes of quiet, brooding intelligence. Also, why didn't the scapegoat stick up for himself? He may have had PTSD but he could still function as a worker at the mill so he wasn't that far gone. I think this was kind of a hot mess in the third act. The love story was the weak point in the film, I suppose. But the two leads are so attractive that it wasn't that hard to take. Not a bad film at all. I'm glad you enjoyed my review. :)Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-23884567741615974972015-01-25T21:48:19.555-05:002015-01-25T21:48:19.555-05:00Just saw this flick on Netflix, thought it was gre...Just saw this flick on Netflix, thought it was great and this was the only review I could land up on when googled. Quite like the read and the fact that there's blogs out there that cater to undercooked movies like these. Anyways, first off, the sheriff wasn't Kinley's dad, but his buddy from high school. I did think the romance between them was a bit forced, though it does look pleasant when it starts off. Its already a bit awkward to find love with your dead friend's past lover, let alone your dead father's lover.
