And Rex Stout also wrote books for decades.

Are they all classics or just those put out in the 1920s and 1930s? I'd hate to think Nero Wolfe at any point is not in a classic mystery, as those books are timeless (except for some of the attitudes on women, etc.).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-17906592297106089852017-12-14T04:38:19.491-05:002017-12-14T04:38:19.491-05:00OK. The atmospherics are very good, though I remember Carr is a little ham-fisted with his literary allusions, giving quite obvious pointers to the solution in such references. He's still a Watson in that book, too.

I read this ages ago but I recalled nothing about it while reading your review. You ought to join everyone. It's sure to be a lively discussion of one of Carr's most contentious mystery novels. It contains arguably his most ridiculous and farfetched solution, IMO. But at the same time it's brilliantly clued so that an observant (and maybe genius?) reader might be able to figure it all out.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3185294584889963228.post-19289022817616388222017-12-01T14:06:24.956-05:002017-12-01T14:06:24.956-05:00I've been concentrating on the Gideon Fell mys...I've been concentrating on the Gideon Fell mysteries.
