I found it incredibly self-congratulatory and condescending, another one of those books where the generations-long struggle for civil rights and human dignity gets shunted aside for the reader to be able to bask in how much understanding the plight of black people allowed a white person to blossom. He is quietly, furiously angry. <br /><br />Perhaps, not your ordinary rebels, but in even daring to 'be together' they are rebels in my book. Sometimes rebellion is a personal matter of the heart.
